Course Description

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing our society, causing many to reflect on the ethical implications of its implementation and use. Yet even as technical experts are well-situated to understand the internal workings of AI systems, many are unaware of the longstanding discipline of ethical theory. This course aims to equip participants interested in ethical issues surrounding AI with an understanding of ethical principles they can use to guide their actions in contexts involving AI. This allows participants to move beyond a general and open-ended discussion and guide their behaviour with specific principles tailored for approaching AI, ensuring the ethical design, implementation and use of AI systems. The course provides participants with something that is ever more essential in our rapidly advancing technological landscape: concrete tools for making real-life decisions about AI in their professional and personal lives.
