Course Description

Nurses have an important role in health education and the provision of health care for populations and individuals. In all settings, knowledge and skills in health assessment enable nurses to develop the database required to make decisions about treatment, health promotion, health education and illness and injury prevention. In assessing each client, nurses must apply the nursing process effectively and efficiently, considering both aspects of wellness and disease or injury to determine the client’s position on a continuum of health and illness.

This module is designed to provide information about health assessment. Its goal is not to make you an expert diagnostician, but to outline the components of a holistic assessment and the skills and knowledge you require to identify areas of a person’s health that require further discussion or investigation. Assessment data are collected through interviews (subjective data) and physical examination (objective data).

Course Hours: 15 hours
