Course Description

This course equips learners with the knowledge and skills to perform comprehensive clinical screening and health surveillance in occupational settings. Participants develop expertise in conducting occupational histories, specialized assessments including audiometry, spirometry, vision, and laboratory testing, and interpreting results to support preventive and diagnostic care. The curriculum emphasizes infection control, emerging health threats, psychosocial health, and substance use, integrating mental health and equity considerations. Learners connect screening outcomes to fitness-to-work assessments, accommodations, and disability management, and apply their knowledge through a capstone project that incorporates evidence-based tools and data management systems, preparing them for effective, applied occupational health nursing practice.
